Our Achievements 2024

Happy Retirement Mr Walker!

On Thursday, 28th March, we bid farewell to our Janitor, Mr Walker, as he finished his last shift before entering retirement after 50 years of working!  Mr Walker is known by everyone, always has a story to tell and greets us with a big smile!  He is super helpful with all of the jobs we need done and keeps us right with water testing and the fire drills too!  We will really miss him around Skene but we hope he enjoys his retirement with his family – we are sure there will be lots of golf in there too! Thank you for everything Mr Walker!

P5-7 Swimming

We are delighted that after 4 years, we are back to our annual swimming sessions at Westhill Pool.  This year we teamed up with Echt and Dunecht to make the sessions more financially viable.  Our thanks to Westhill Swimming Pool and the Westhill Sports Hub for their support throughout the process – the children had a fantastic time developing their water confidence, the four strokes, lifesaving skills and all whilst having fun too!

Enterprising Maths Challenge Day – University of Aberdeen

The very best of luck to Erin, Euan and Ruby who will represent us at the Enterprising Maths Challenge Day at the University of Aberdeen on Tuesday 16th April. Keep practising those head-to-head challenges and good luck with your ‘Geometry and Problem Solving’ poster.

P6 Euro Quiz Finalists!

Well done to all of our P6/7 pupils who took part in the preliminary rounds of the Euro Quiz 2024.  We are delighted to share that Cameron, Daniel, Amy and Alex S will represent the school in the final on Friday 19th April – good luck team!

Bronze ‘Rights committed’ Award

I am delighted to share that we have received our Bronze – Rights Committed status for UNICEF’s Rights Respecting Schools Award.  Moving forward, we now must implement the actions on our silver level action plan.

P7 Competitive Rotary Quiz

Huge congratulations to the ‘Skene Scones’ who came 3rd in the P7 Rotary Quiz.  A fantastic effort from all team members – you certainly did yourselves, your families and the school proud!

P4/5 and P6/7 Rotary Fun Quiz

Well done to our two teams that entered the Rotary Fun Quiz, the Skene Dragon Trainers and the Skene Snowflakes.  Both teams performed well, showcasing their knowledge and talents – well done!

Young Environmentalist Competition

Well done to all of our pupils who participated in the Rotary Young Environmentalist Competition.  The children shared many innovative ideas to help look after and protect our community, country and the world.  They shared small scale ideas that can have a big impact as well as some of the work we are doing as a school community.

We are delighted to share the success of three of our groups, being placed as follows:

Intermediate section runners up – Erin and Ruby (P7)

Junior section winners – Amy and Alex S

Junior section runners up – Alex G, Daniel and Blake
